TLDR

A full drop-stitch inflatable kayak with rigid hull panels that create a hard-shell-like structure when inflated. The high-pressure floor, sides, and deck eliminate the "banana" flex typical of inflatable kayaks, delivering performance approaching hard-shell touring kayaks.

  • Experienced kayakers, expedition paddlers, traveling adventurers, and performance-oriented paddlers who need a packable kayak that performs like a hard-shell.
  • Use cases: Multi-day expedition kayaking, Coastal touring and sea kayaking, Travel-friendly performance paddling

Serious paddlers no longer have to choose between packability and performance. The Aquafarer Full Drop-Stitch Kayak uses drop-stitch construction throughout the hull, sides, and deck to deliver the rigidity, tracking, and speed of a hard-shell touring kayak — in a boat that rolls into a travel bag.

No More Banana Flex

Traditional inflatable kayaks flex and “oil-can” under aggressive paddling, wasting strokes and fighting the paddle. Full drop-stitch construction — thousands of internal threads throughout every hull panel — holds the V-hull’s shape at 0.3 bar, cutting through water efficiently and holding a straight course in chop.

Performance Specifications

At 380cm long and 70cm wide, the kayak tracks like a dedicated touring boat. The 10cm drop-stitch floor, rigid deck, adjustable end-to-end backrest seat, and adjustable foam footrest deliver hard-shell-like control. Max load is 350kg (175kg single-rider), with hull weight from 17kg (1P) to 22kg (2P) and a top speed of 9.8 km/h.

Expedition-Ready Fittings

Bow and stern net covers stow gear under deck, while deck bungee cords secure cargo on top. A spray skirt, two paddle valves, adjustable seats (second seat removable), carrying bag, and repair kit complete the package. An inner-hull fixing loop system (12-line / 4-line / 2-line configurations, 2 fixing loops per deck side) secures custom outfitting.

Ideal For

Experienced kayakers, expedition paddlers, traveling adventurers, and performance-oriented paddlers who need a packable kayak that performs like a hard-shell — or premium guided-tour rentals at higher rates.

Solo or Tandem

The kayak ships ready for two paddlers, with the second seat removable for solo use. Paddled solo, the 380cm hull becomes a fast, responsive touring boat with generous deck space for expedition gear — the classic configuration for long-distance touring. In tandem mode the same hull carries two paddlers and their kit at a top speed of 9.8 km/h, making it a practical family boat for coastal and lake trips.

Travel and Storage

At 17-22kg, the kayak is light enough for one person to carry, and the full package fits inside the included carrying bag for airline travel. Unlike a hard-shell, it needs no roof rack and no permanent storage space — it lives in a closet, car trunk, or travel case and goes out on demand. Expedition paddlers who fly to rivers value this above all other features.

Care & Maintenance

Keep working pressure at 0.3 bar so the drop-stitch panels stay firm — underinflation is the main cause of flex in performance use. Rinse the hull and footrests after saltwater trips. When storing, deflate partially and fold along the seams rather than across them, and keep the kayak away from direct sunlight. The fabric threads should be checked for abrasion after rocky launches, and small punctures patched promptly to protect the drop-stitch core.

Why this exists

Serious paddlers want inflatable kayaks that track and perform like hard-shell kayaks but remain packable for travel. Traditional inflatable kayaks flex and deform under aggressive paddling.

Comparison

How it compares

Compared to hybrid inflatable kayaks (partial drop-stitch), the full drop-stitch kayak provides significantly better tracking and efficiency. The rigid hull maintains its shape in rough water and under aggressive paddling. Packs to 1/3 the size of a hard-shell kayak.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the tracking compare to a hard-shell kayak?
Experienced paddlers report tracking within 85-90% of comparable hard-shell touring kayaks. The full drop-stitch hull eliminates the flex that degrades tracking in traditional inflatables.
Can I roll this kayak?
Yes. The rigid drop-stitch structure supports Eskimo rolls and other advanced maneuvers. A spray skirt is recommended for rolling practice.
